Beth Shuster is the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Provost. She came to the university in 2016 as the director of public communications in the Office of the Provost, where she worked with national, local, and student media to promote the excellent work of USC’s faculty, students, and staff.
Prior to USC, she spent a decade as the education editor of the Los Angeles Times, where she led a team of reporters covering K-12 and higher education. Beth also was a reporter at the Times where she had a range of assignments, including education, City Hall, and law enforcement. She was the lead reporter on breaking news articles that won a Pulitzer Prize and she received numerous education and other awards. She was an education reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News and a reporter at States News Service in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Beth serves on the Board of Directors of the national Education Writers Association, the professional organization for journalists who cover education at all levels. She is also an active member of the Association of American Universities’ Public Affairs Network.
