The United Auto Workers wants to represent 2700+ RTPC faculty with extremely different profiles, across 22 schools, the USC Libraries, and hundreds of disciplines.

Can One Contract Meet Everyone’s Needs?

The United Auto Workers—formally the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America—wants to be your labor union, and the election is almost a week away.

This vote will decide whether the United Auto Workers will be chosen to negotiate one contract for a complex composition of faculty with fundamentally different professional backgrounds and academic needs, including:

clinicians • artists • legal professionals • scientists
engineers • journalists • musicians
policy and social service professionals
writing professors • business people • media executives

Who would be included in the proposed bargaining unit?

The proposed unit includes certain faculty working in Los Angeles (LA) County, including:

All full-time RTPC faculty
All part-time RTPC faculty
All adjunct faculty

It excludes:

Tenure-track and tenured faculty
Part-time and adjunct faculty in the School of Cinematic Arts
All faculty in the Keck School of Medicine
Faculty employed by Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles
Faculty who work outside LA County
Note that Bovard College faculty are eligible to vote although they teach remotely.

The future of USC RTPC faculty representation could be determined by the majority of votes cast.
