Dear Faculty,
Your voice matters in the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) election, which could determine whether the United Auto Workers will be chosen as the exclusive bargaining representative for RTPC faculty. Find more information about the election on the Provost Office website.
If you have not received your ballot at your home address, please call the NLRB as soon as possible, either at the Region 31 NLRB Office: 310-235-7351 or the NLRB’s national toll-free line: 844-762-6572.
If you are sent to voicemail, please leave a message with your name and home address. The NLRB will put a new ballot in the mail if you are on their voter list.
As a reminder, the NLRB must receive your completed ballot by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, May 15, for your vote to be counted in the election.

What Collective Bargaining Could Change
- If the union is voted in, a single labor contract could apply to the approximately 2,700 faculty in the proposed bargaining unit.
- The University may be limited in its ability to deal directly with faculty in the proposed bargaining unit, depending on the terms of the contract.
- During collective bargaining, the University would be unable to make unilateral changes to wages, benefits, and working conditions – this is called ‘maintaining the status quo.’
- If a majority of those who participate in the election vote for the United Auto Workers, the union could become the exclusive bargaining representative for the terms and conditions of employment for all within the petitioned-for unit, representing even those who didn’t vote in the election or don’t support unionization.
We hope you will take the time to vote and make your voice heard in this important decision.
Sincerely,
Andrew T. Guzman
