Dear Faculty Colleagues,
Fall Recess will take place on Thursday and Friday, October 8 and 9. During these designated days, regular undergraduate classes are suspended, and no classwork or assignments should be due or expected to be completed.
The recess was instituted in 2019 following advocacy from the Undergraduate Student Government and the Academic Senate as part of the university’s efforts to support student wellness and mental health. This mid-semester pause gives students an important opportunity to rest, recharge, and catch up around the seventh week of the semester.
I encourage you to help preserve the restorative purpose of Fall Recess by allowing students to step away fully from their academic responsibilities. We hope they will use this brief break in ways that are safe, healthy, and restorative—whether that means resting, spending time outdoors, connecting with others, or simply taking time for themselves.
As with Spring Recess, the university will remain open during Fall Recess.
Thank you for supporting our students and for all you are doing to make this a successful and productive semester.
Sincerely,
Andrew T. Guzman
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
