Dear Colleagues,
As part of USC’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students, alumni, volunteers, and visitors, the university maintains a Violence-Free Campus Workplace Policy. Recently, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) released new regulations that require employers, including USC, to develop a formal plan and train staff and faculty on workplace violence prevention. To this end, we will be launching a new Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training to faculty this Monday, September 9.
The Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training takes about 15 minutes to complete and will be assigned via an email from TrojanLearn. During the training, you will learn about job-specific violence hazards and preventative measures, how to report workplace violence incidents without fear of retaliation, and the purpose of USC’s violent incident log and how to obtain related records. You will have 30 calendar days to complete the course. Non-exempt faculty should log their time spent on training to ensure they are properly compensated.
We all play an important role in maintaining a violence-free campus environment. Please encourage your colleagues to take the training.
If you have any questions about the Violence-Free Campus Workplace Policy, plan, or training, please reach out to Environmental Health & Safety at ehs@usc.edu.
Thank you for your support in this effort.
Sincerely,
Andrew T. Guzman
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
